SCENAR technology was first invented in Russia in the mid 1970s under the country’s space and military research program. The aim was to overcome the unique problems of space travel. Pharmaceuticals were impractical in space due to the specificity of each drug, leading to a need to store a large variety and quantity of drugs, and also due to the contamination of the water recycling systems – leading to the possibility that one drug may affect the entire crew of the spacecraft.

The initial concept was to engineer a device for “chen–tsu–therapy” (an ancient Chinese therapy – reflex therapy or zone therapy), using “biological feedback”.

A Russian team of doctors and scientists from the Taganrog Radio-engineering Institute, Russia in the 1970s developed a method of treatment using biofeedback that was energy efficient, had many applications, and was totally portable and non–invasive. This team included Alexander Karasev and Alexander Revenko and other scientists and was the first to achieve repeated therapeutic treatment using electrical signals to stimulate the immune system.

RITM OKB ZAO was closely connected with the invention and is the first Company to manufacture and distribute SCENAR devices in Russia and later all over the world.
